Home and Office Moving: The Importance of Labeling Boxes

There is limited time to pack the boxes before the moving company is coming to load them up, so a person or a family might consider taking some shortcuts to speed the process along. A couple of shortcuts could be all right depending on what type they are. One thing that should not be overlooked when trying to hurry along the move preparations is labeling the boxes though. What goes on the outside of the box is very important to know for not only the movers but also you when the time comes for you to unpack them.

Label the Room

The room where the contents come from is the most important part to put on the box. Be specific about the room, too, don't just label it as bedroom. Mark master bedroom, a specific child's bedroom or guest room. When movers are carrying boxes in, they will immediately know exactly what room to deliver it to instead of just piling all of the bedroom boxes in to one room.

The same detail needs to be used when a closet is emptied in to a box. Add if it is a linen closet, a game room closet, the front door coat closet, a bathroom closet or the utility closet. Those closets all have very different items and if they were just labeled closet, it would take a lot of extra time opening boxes to determine what was inside, then you would have to carry it to the proper place.

Be Specific on Contents

Right below the room label, describe the basics of what is entered. For instance, if this was a child's bedroom, are there toys in the box? The child's room could be clothes, toys, books, shoes, blankets or any number of shelf items. The same goes for a bathroom closet box. There could be a stack of boxes labeled bathroom, but when you really want the one with all of the medicine in it to get rid of a killer migraine, then ripping apart four boxes to get to the right one is not a fun idea.

The more specific you are with the contents of a box, the easier it will be to prioritize when unpacking. Although you will need to open all of them eventually, the most important boxes can be opened and put away while the minor boxes of items that are not needed right away can wait.
