People check their emails everyday. I am currently retired and I am constantly on my email. Because of Moore's law which states that every six months technology increases two fold, email is getting easier and easier to check any time of the day. Most of us have smart phones with email enabled so the use of email marketing is quite efficient.

Gone are the days of slow internet connectivity and cell phones not working. Everyone has one and uses them constantly. however, email marketing has its pros and cons. email marketing can potentially reach a multitude of people. Even people that are not even in your same country. This enables a person to send their message to a diversity of people that might find the mail message interesting. Also, Email is extremely fast and can be delivered to anyone almost instantly. If one wants to market a product swiftly and efficiently, email is the way to go.

With all the great attributes of email come the downsides of email too. People generally do not like random emails from people they do not know and will immediately discard that email in the trash. this could drastically decrease the marketing capability of one's product if people discard the message right away.

Also, within one's email tools is the spam folder. the spam folder caches all incoming messages and if a message contains certain characters or see that it is going to multiple people, will place that message into the spam folder. This is inherently bad for email marketing because people usually do not even look in their spam folder. If one does open the spam folder, one usually deletes all items within it because spam is essentially useless. Because email marketing wants to reach a wide variety of people then getting around the spam folder might be a little bit of an issue.

In light of the cons of email marketing one could tailor the email to a very specific interest. This could mean that if one wants to market their idea to a whole city, such as support for street maintenance, then one could easily place a recognized problem in the subject line along with the city name. Throughout the message then, one could explain who that person is and what their trying to accomplish with the given email. It is important to be clear and concise because people will not be reading as intently because the email came from an unknown person.

The recipient will only be looking for one slip up to send the email to the trash. However, with an interesting title to pique their interest, and a elegantly laid out message will keep their attention on the fine details of one's message. Finally, one should use bulletin points or dashes to accurately lay out the important information for the recipient to look over. The recipient might glaze over a wall of text but if one uses dashes and bullet points, then those will grab the recipients attention.

Email marketing is a very delicate venture to pursue. Email is widely used as a communicative tool and with an anonymous or unknown sender, an individual is more likely to automatically trash the message. Because of this, I would only suggest email marketing for people that want to reach individuals throughout a city for help, such as community groups, building projects, or volunteer opportunities. One could potentially reach individuals on a more grand of scale, however, one's message might not be well received.

For individuals that are marketing a product of their own, I would not suggest email marketing just because of the spam that recipients will undoubtedly see because of it; in truth, that is what email marketing is. However, that is why if one is a small business in a city that wants some growth and exposure, sure email marketing might work quite well. If one is a business and markets to a multitude of illogical people, then the senders message might be skewed and the business might be hurt because of it.

Also, since email is done over the world wide web, there is no face to face interaction. Email marketing could be a huge thing to a person who is shy or does not have great people skills. Email marketing would allow that shy individual to email tons of people in not so awkward of a fashion. Another example would be that if that shy individual presents a product to people and one does not have great speaking skills then one might fumble over words and the message of the product might be skewed, resulting in confusion in the audience. With email, it eliminates that problem presenting the product how it is and leaving it up to the recipient of the email to determine what they think of it.

The businessman marketing his product could also reach out to numerous people to come by a meetup in which he would present his product to them on a more official note. Like I said earlier, this would go over extremely well in a town or city and the businessman just would like some growth. Another perfect example would be an individual opening new store in a small or large city and wants some exposure. One could get emails of various citizens and talk about the new store. Within the email, one could possibly offer a discount or sale to everyone who comes by to the store. This will tempt the person to actually consider the message and head on down to the store. Also, a snowball could occur where that one recipient would read the email and then mentions it and tells their friends and family of the email and then that is an additional two to three people.

Overall, email marketing would be fantastic for small business that would like to experience growth in a city. insure success by using bullet points and offering discounts to recipient. However, email marketing should be discouraged on a larger scale due to spam picking up the message and people losing interest in a irrelevant topic to them. Make an interesting title, use bullet points, offer discounts or specials, and provide contact information for people to call or come stop by.
