It is becoming more and more likely for many authors to be frustrated by their lack of success in having their work published. Publishing companies, especially reputable ones, are averse of publishing the work of first time writers. There are perhaps millions of manuscripts out there that lie gathering dust because they have been rejected by publishing companies. Just like you I and and many others, you could be sitting on a manuscript of genius, and still see average or even mediocre works being published, all because you are simply unknown. Many writers with great talent, simply give up and persue other interests. Now you perhaps aware what happens if a person does something he or she is not passionate about.

This problem can be overcome by self publishing. Many famous authors started out by self publishing their work and later being sought after by the very publishers who at first had shunned their manuscripts. Here is a short list of some of the famous writers who started out by self publishing, to mention just a few :

Mark Twain-Hucleberry Finn; John Grisham- Atime to kill; James Joyce-Ukysses Richard Nixon-Real Peace

There are many other writers out there who have self published themselves and made a handsome living through their work. You do not need to be famous to make good money as a writer. There are countless writers out there you might never ever get to know their works, yet they still make money with their self published works. Some of these writers could be well known or unknown. Here's a sample list of the: Deepak Chopra, Louise Hay, George Bernard Shaw, Alexander Dumas, Mary Baker Eddy,Benjamin Franklin and the list is endless.

Still there are pitfalls that have to be taken cognisant of. Self publishing has spawned a whole series of shoddy and mediocre work to go into circulation owing to lack of tight and stringent controls by publishing houses. This is unavoidable in this form of publishing. However , it is encumbent upon you to make sure that your work is of good quality, starting from quality writing, editing and proof reading, poor production values, etc. I t is obvious that self publishing does not limit any writer but, writers limit themselves by not adhering to high standards of writing and seeing a book up to publication. Self publishing is a revolution of the information age that is upon us. If you use correctly and professionally, it can make your work be respected and accepted by many readers. Try it , and you will not regret it.
